National Masturbation

Hello

The title you ask?, well, I just watched a good movie, and it made me ponder a bad movie. I just watched the WW2 classic "Tora! Tora! Tora!, which was an epic 1970's film, with beautiful directing and cinematography, as well as a balanced portrayal of the American and Japanese motives. Neither side being wholly good or wholly evil. They also go the extra step and re-enact stunning dogfights with real restored airplanes used in ww2 (and a painted up American plane called a "Texan", but made to look like a "zero". I suppose not many Zero's survived the war).

Compare then, to the wank-stain equivalent which is "Pearl Harbour", made in I-don't-give-a-fuck, pearl harbour was a flashy piece of something, that quite frankly hearkened back to the cowboy and Indians era. It was the Good-noble Americans attacked without warning or reason by the evil demonic Japanese non-Christians. the scenes are made to look flashy, filled with attempts at emotional empathy. It reminds me less of a movie based on historical fact, and more of a big-fish story acting as porn for the collective American national masturbation (America, Fuck Yeah!).

the funniest thing of all is that Tora! Tora! Tora! actually looks more realistic. The characters or more real, the facts or more real, and it seems like it might have actually been an event perpetrated by, and involving, human beings. just a funny observation.

Anyways, I went to the dentist, for what I thought was an hour-long appointment. turns out it was 3.5 hours, so that sucked. Now I have to go to work. If it was going to be so long and "surgerific", i would have tried to get the day off.

I also got a new cooking pan, its one of those paderno eco-friendly thingamajigs. I like it because it has a super-duper-no-sticking-ever surface, made of ceramic stuff. apparently 10x stronger than Teflon, and not nearly as cancer-ish. i made cajun eggs. Nom.

Till next time

  1. Paderno is good stuff. Got me some of their lovely mixing bowls, though I'm jealous of your pan.
